It is an exciting time for us; we are working directly or via collaborative ventures in 30 countries around the world, increasing our influence globally. We are rolling out our donkey assisted therapy programme and are building a new equine hospital in Devon to service our UK donkey rescue and rehoming activities. Our main headquarters in Devon is open to the public 365 days a year and continues to attract over 280,000 visitors annually.
A unique opportunity has now arisen for a new Chief Executive to build on the fantastic work of our late founder Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE and our retiring Chief Executive, David Cook. The new Chief Executive will develop the reach and profile of our international programmes, working in partnership with complimentary organisations to help donkeys and mules, as well as lobby for better treatment and education. They will grow the profile and reach of the donkey assisted therapy programmes and ensure that our headquarters continue to operate as a world class visitor centre, alongside our new equine hospital.
The new Chief Executive will work with our talented, committed staff and volunteers to lead The Donkey Sanctuary in the next stage of its development, ensuring real differences in animal welfare and in the lives of those who depend upon donkeys and mules.
The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with experience of senior management in an international, complex and changing environment. Whilst previous experience in animal health, welfare and the charitable sector would be an advantage, all candidates with relevant executive experience and empathy for the charity’s mission are invited to consider this unique opportunity.
