To help keep everyone safe, we have limited the number of on-site visitors. Learn more about our new visitor experience.

To help us manage this, we are implementing a booking system for visits between:

  • 10am - 12noon
  • 1pm - 3pm

Opening times

  • Select Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year: 10am - 12noon and 1pm - 3pm

Due to the location of The Donkey Sanctuary Birmingham, we occasionally have to close our sanctuary to the public when events are held at Sutton Park.

Dog-friendly

We welcome well behaved dogs on site, but they must be kept on a lead at all times. Please note there is no access for dogs in the refreshment serving area.

How to find us

Access to The Donkey Sanctuary Birmingham is only via Town Gate, Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield. We are situated within the park itself. After entering the park through Town Gate, keep to the left hand side until you have reached the top of the hill, where you can turn right. Turn right at the bottom of this path to get to The Donkey Sanctuary Birmingham.

By Car

M42, Junction 9: From Junction 9 of the M42, follow signs to Lichfield along the A446. Take the second exit on the large island signposted A453 to Sutton Coldfield. Stay on this road until you come to a T-junction opposite the Town Hall. Turn right and follow the road down to a small island. Take the third exit on the island and carry on straight to enter Sutton Park via Town Gate.

M6, Junction 5: If leaving the M6 at Junction 5, follow signs to Sutton Coldfield/Brownhills A452, over 3 islands. At the traffic signals turn right signposted A5127 Sutton Coldfield. Once on the A5127, at the traffic signals turn left, signposted Birmingham North A453. Take the first right onto Somerville Road, straight on at the traffic signals and then take the first exit at the small island, carrying on straight to enter Sutton Park via Town Gate.

M6 Junction 6: If leaving the M6 at Junction 6, follow signs to Sutton Coldfield/Erdington A5127. Once on the A5127, at the traffic signals turn left, signposted Birmingham North A453. Take the first right onto Somerville Road, straight on at the traffic signals and then take the first exit at the small island, carrying on straight to enter Sutton Park via Town Gate.

M6 Junction 7: If leaving the M6 at Junction 7, follow signs to Birmingham A34. At the traffic signals turn left to Sutton Coldfield/Lichfield B4149. Carry straight on over the roundabout and turn right at the second roundabout, A453 Sutton Coldfield. At the next roundabout take the third exit onto Rough Road. Carry straight over the traffic signals and next roundabout then turn left at the next traffic signals. take the first exit at the small island, carrying on straight to enter Sutton Park via Town Gate.

By Train

On leaving the railway station, turn left and walk to the end of Railway Road. Turn right and go along Park Road, over the small island, carrying on straight to enter Sutton Park via Town Gate.
