Your Valentine's gift could bring comfort to broken-hearted donkeys all around the world.
Will, the broken-hearted stallion
Loveable Will joined us with his best friend Coco after their owner was struggling to put a roof over their heads. During veterinary investigation, however, our team discovered something unusual about the stallion: he had a hole in his heart.
Plans for castrating Will were cancelled, given the high risk the operation poses to donkeys with heart troubles. We operate a 'no breeding' policy at The Donkey Sanctuary, meaning that Will the stallion needed to find friends away from the mare Coco.
Their gradual separation took months of patience from our dedicated team of farm staff so as not to cause Will another form of heartbreak. Bit by bit, the two donkeys were introduced to new friends while still seeing each other.
Now, Will has settled in with a fun-loving group of boys, and is as happy as ever having found love among his new friends. Will may have a hole in his heart, but thanks to our team, he is certainly not heartbroken.
Timmy and Tommy learn to love again
We found Timmy and Tommy in a pitiful state, having endured months of physical and emotional suffering in conditions of unimaginable squalor.
Tommy was on the point of collapse. He was so thin we could see his bony spine and shoulders, his hooves were severely overgrown, and there were bald patches on his coat. Timmy was in even greater pain as his hooves had been savagely cut by someone who was clearly not a professional farrier. He was trapped in his own stable, and had to be dug out from three feet of his own excrement. At the point of unimaginable suffering, Timmy and Tommy had only each other for comfort.
From prison to sanctuary, their transformation has been remarkable. Both donkeys now reside at one of our farms in Devon, and are slowly learning to trust again. Thanks to our supporters, their bond is stronger than ever and their true personalities are now shining through under the care of our devoted grooms.
Adopting a donkey is a gift that grows over time. This single, personal gesture will bring your loved one moments of fun throughout the year. Your Valentine can stay up to date with their adopted donkey's sweet - and often mischievous - antics over our dedicated adoption social media pages. You could even visit your chosen donkey together in person; with donkeys and mules to choose from six UK locations, you can drop in to your local Sanctuary and find out all about your new furry friend from one of our grooms.
What's included in an adoption pack?
If you choose an adoption pack for your loved one this Valentine's Day, they will receive:
- Two gorgeous portraits of their donkey
- A display frame for the portraits

Most importantly your gift not only extends to its recipient and their adopted donkey, but to donkeys all over the world in need of help.
We have so many adorable donkeys keen to be your friend. Stuck for choice? Why not take a look at Henry - a true softie who, fittingly, has his birthday just five days after Valentine's Day.
If you want the full pack to arrive for Valentine's day, be sure to order in plenty of time - our UK deliveries may take up to 14 days to arrive.
Missed the 14 day cut off? Not to worry! You will still get a downloadable certificate to print for your Valentine to open as you wait for your goodies to arrive.
