Are you passionate about improving the lives of animals?
Would you like to work for one of the UK’s leading animal welfare charities?
The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest animal charities and the largest equine charity working internationally.
Our International Department is looking for a full-time, permanent, GIS and Data Officer, to be based in Sidmouth, Devon.
There are an estimated 50 million donkeys and mules worldwide. Most are working to support livelihoods in some of the poorest and most marginalized communities in the world and have a vital role to play in human happiness and survival. Many need care and protection from a life of suffering and neglect.
We currently work with partners in 27 countries reaching 1 million donkeys and mules and our vision is to reach many more.
In this role you will hold the vital position of supporting our International Department in the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of data from our overseas programmes, to ensure high quality donkey-focussed interventions across The Donkey Sanctuary’s international programme.
You will maintain, support and develop the data handling and GIS capabilities to support senior managers to monitor and evaluate our overseas projects. You will assist in developing GIS (ArcGIS) to track emerging donkey welfare issues including feral donkeys, donkeys as production animals (milk, meat and skin), and donkeys in disasters. You will support the training of staff to use quality geo-referenced data in case studies and field research. You will also capture and enter data into existing international databases and assist in their maintenance and development to improve our work.
