We are looking to recruit a Farm Worker/Groom (Late Shift) to be based within our New Arrivals Unit at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth.
Upon arrival, all animals spend a minimum of six weeks in the New Arrivals Unit. Vaccinations, weights, farriery, worming and dental details are updated before the animals then join the resident herd. Strict Bio-security measures are in place in order to minimise the risk of infection being transmitted between groups.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual with excellent animal husbandry skills and the ability to work unsupervised. You will be responsible for the careful observation of all new arrivals, and for identifying and reporting illnesses to the New Arrivals Manager and the duty Veterinary Surgeon.
Other tasks include grooming, mucking out, feeding, removal of droppings from pasture and bringing animals in from the fields at the end of the day along with the preparation and distribution of medications for those animals on treatment. There will be some times when lone working is required.
This is a part-time, fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until 16 July 2018. The hours of work will be based on 37.5 hours, working alternate weeks. Core hours will be, Monday – Friday, 3.30pm–9.00pm and Saturday and Sunday, 1.15pm – 8.30pm. This shift will be followed by a week off. However please note that due to the care we provide, operating a 24/7 service, some flexibility with hours will be required.
