We are looking to recruit a New Arrivals Groom (Late Shift) to be based within our New Arrivals Unit at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth.
Upon arrival, all animals spend a minimum of six weeks in the New Arrivals Unit. Vaccinations, weights, farriery, worming and dentals are updated before the animals then join the resident herd. Strict Bio-security measures are in place in order to minimise the risk of infection being transmitted between groups.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual with excellent animal husbandry skills, and the ability to work unsupervised. You will be responsible for the careful observation of all the new arrivals and for identifying and reporting illnesses to the New Arrivals Manager and the duty Veterinary Surgeon. There will be some times when lone working is required.
Other tasks include grooming, mucking out, feeding, removal of droppings from pasture, bringing animals in from the fields at the end of the day, and the preparation and distribution of medications for those animals on treatment.
This is part-time, fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until 4th June 2018. The hours of work will be based on 37.5 hours, working alternate weeks, Monday – Friday, 3.30pm–9.00pm and Saturday and Sunday,1.15pm – 8.30pm (one week on/one week off).
