The Donkey Sanctuary is a global donkey welfare charity currently operating out of 33 countries worldwide, reaching 1.6 million animals.
We have a newly built, fully equipped veterinary hospital near Honiton, Devon, which is where the veterinary intern will be based. This position will be suitable for a new or recently qualified graduate who is keen to develop their equine skills but also has an interest in equine welfare.
In addition to the hospital-based duties, we will expect the intern to be involved in ambulatory work on any of our six local farms that care for 2,700 animals. In addition to routine equine work we take a herd health based approach to our veterinary care providing evidence based management advice. We will also be offering an exposure to the wider remit of the charity working alongside the welfare, research and pathology and global programmes teams.
In addition to supporting the intern through a PDP year, if required, we can offer them a short placement in an allied equine practice to help develop their confidence and widen their skills.
We are a friendly team of 7 vets and 5 nurses, who enjoy our work and are passionate about donkeys and their role in the world.
This is a 12 month full-time, fixed term contract starting on 1 October 2017 until 30 September 2018.
