Eileen Parker is one of our devoted team of donkey volunteers. Every two weeks Eileen gets in her car in Cheltenham and drives the 123 miles to Trow Farm near Sidmouth to give her love and care to the several hundred donkeys living there. She has become a real asset to the farm team, and while she really loves the opportunity to give cuddles to the donkeys, she also enjoys being involved in every aspect of a groom's job from grooming donkeys to mucking out the stables and washing buckets.
"This is a really important part of my life. I can't imagine doing anything else," says Eileen. "We are very much part of the farm team caring for the donkeys' needs and often provide a valuable extra set of eyes and ears looking out for each donkey's health and wellbeing."
Volunteering here is the best thing I've ever done.
Eileen spent much of her working life in an office. She first discovered her love for donkeys when she was 17 on a trip to Oxfordshire. There, in a field, were two beautiful grey donkeys she named Mitch and Titch. Her love for donkeys was sparked and she made several trips to The Donkey Sanctuary in the ensuing years before finally coming to Donkey Week in 2010 where she discovered the opportunity to become a Quality Time Volunteer. You can read more about Eileen's experiences in her blog.
