This is an urgent call for your help in keeping our elderly donkeys warm. With the cold snap of winter and the continued temperatures plummeting many of our elderly donkeys are struggling to keep warm in their waterproof rugs.
We need to get these donkeys warm now so we are appealing for donations towards the cost of buying duvets to add extra warmth under their donkey rugs.
The older donkeys do not move about very much so in an effort to try and keep them warm, Trudie Hartnell, one of the grooms at Paccombe Farm, using a donated sewing machine, has managed to tailor 20 under-rugs made from duvets which are held in place by the waterproof outer rug.
Annie Brown, General Farms Manager, has said that we are faced with an emergency situation because the company who supply our donkey rugs can't make the individually fitted extra warm padded rugs quickly enough. Because donkeys come in all shapes and sizes, this new style of rug has to be tailored to each specific donkey's shape. We need to buy some more duvets now to keep the donkeys warm, and have more padded rugs made so that we are better prepared for any more cold weather.
