A herd of donkeys who live with a wonderful Donkey Guardian family are now enjoying life in a spacious new barn. Learn more here.

Blossom, Cuddles, Daisy, Tickles and Tulip now live in the state-of-the-art home built last year during the lockdown. It’s a real family herd – Blossom is the mother of siblings Tulip and Cuddles.

The new barn is now home to all of the donkeys and replaces a smaller unit that housed the stables they lived in.

The build, which resulted from lots of planning and hard work by Guardians Sarah and Conway Standing, was completed in summer 2020.

The donkeys’ five-star barn provides them access to well-managed grazing and enrichment toys, including wellies and horse balls.

It also offers a washroom, a feed room where Sarah keeps head collars, a kitchen with a large viewing window for her and her family to enjoy lunch close to the donkeys, CCTV and another section to house her pet llamas.

Donkey Welfare Adviser Keira Benham says: “The donkeys are Sarah’s sanctuary, and they provide her with an escape from the stresses of everyday life.

“She wanted to make sure they were as enriched as they could be. It’s always been Sarah’s dream to create a large living environment for them, and she was fortunate enough to be able to complete the barn last year.”

Donkey Guardians are essential to us. They help free up vital space on our farms and provide dedicated care to our donkeys.
