The cheeky but utterly adorable Walter is well-known for his big appetite. Despite being quite nervous when he arrived at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth, in 2004, Walter has really grown in confidence and now he and his half-brother Timothy love to try and break into the food shed on a regular basis. Sadly for the pair, the grooms have cottoned onto their thieving antics, just as well for their waistlines!
With his skewbald colouring and that soft, spotty nose, who could resist Walter? He remains extremely calm around the children and adults that he provides donkey assisted therapy to. Walter can sense when someone is nervous or lacking in confidence and will respond accordingly to make sure they have an enjoyable ride. Because of this Walter is one of our stars of the donkey assisted therapy team. Always remaining cool and collected, he knows how to look after the children that visit him.
There really is nothing that fazes Walter; he’s a sensitive soul who adores Timothy. The two are stuck like glue when they’re together but are happy to be apart if there are children to assist.
There’s only one thing in the world that can bring out Walter’s inner-cheekiness and it’s the treat ball! This is a ball filled with food or treats which they can play with and roll along the ground, and dispenses the treats as a reward. Of course Walter just loves it! The moment he spots it, it’s his. No-one else is allowed near it. He’ll nudge it with his nose, kick it with his hooves and fly around his yard with it until he has extracted all the tasty treats. Yummy. He also tends to be quite a striker on the quiet so if you visit him you might just spot his skills in action!
We absolutely adore this active, fun-loving chap, and we’re sure you will too.
Already adopted Walter? Why not share this with your friends and family to show them just how lucky you are?
