The Donkey Sanctuary has welcomed a commitment from Chief Inspector Kevin Kelly, Head of the UK National Wildlife Crime Unit, to support our campaign to stop the abhorrent slaughter of donkeys for the illegal trade in their skins.

A mule who was rescued from a well-known horse fair is enjoying a new friendship after being rehomed with a loving family.

More than 80 donkeys now have a home for life after being officially signed into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary, marking the legal conclusion of our largest ever UK rescue.

At The Donkey Sanctuary, we recognise the importance of improving the quality and structure of our soil. Not only does this support a robust ecosystem, but healthy soil also helps create the best environment for our resident herds.

A group of donkeys living with overgrown hooves are now on the road to recovery after they were rescued from a smallholding in North Devon.

A donkey who mysteriously injured his front leg is now walking easy thanks to the quick-thinking actions of his grooms.

A group of Armed Forces veterans spent the day at our Sidmouth Donkey Assisted Activities (DAA) centre recently, helping to improve our outdoor spaces and enjoying some wellbeing with the centre’s donkeys.

Our Ecology and Conservation team have been using a remote camera to record some of the smaller wildlife species that call the Sidmouth sanctuary their home.

Visitors and staff at our Sidmouth sanctuary may have spotted some strange ‘tent-shaped’ webs in the hedgerows around the site recently.

Where we work

We work to ensure donkeys across the Americas are nurtured and well looked after, helping them form a vital part of local communities.
