Linda has been volunteering at The Donkey Sanctuary for just over two years. She assists the events team with their administration tasks as well as helping out on event days.
Having supported The Donkey Sanctuary for 25 years, Linda was keen to jump in as a volunteer as soon as she moved from the New Forest down to Devon. With the Sanctuary now on her doorstep she applied immediately to become a Donkey Volunteer.
I like the team I work
with and really enjoy being part of
The Donkey Sanctuary family
Linda initially went through the training to help on the farms, hands-on with the donkeys, but the farm she was due to start at was closed for a while due to a virus in the donkey herd. In the meantime a space came up within the events team for a volunteer, and Linda decided to change direction and offer her administrative assistance to the events team.
When asked what she enjoys about being a volunteer Linda said, “I like the team I work with and I really enjoy being part of The Donkey Sanctuary family, there is a good range of tasks in my volunteer role and I enjoy the variety. I come to help the team for three hours every Monday as well as offering my assistance on special event days”.
Linda undertakes lots of jobs as a volunteer, from filing paperwork and addressing letters to cleaning the steel-toe cap boots and making up packs and goodie bags for events. On event days Linda has helped on the road-crossing, parked cars, sold programmes and even stewarded at the dog show – a task she really enjoyed due to her love of dogs, “working with dogs and donkeys all day – perfect!”
