Jeff has been volunteering his time to The Donkey Sanctuary since 2011 after retiring to Devon. He has, however, been a supporter of the Sanctuary for over 25 years, and in 1993 he even did a parachute jump raising over £500 for the charity.
In his retirement Jeff was keen to fill his time with something worthwhile, so he started leading tours around the Sidmouth Sanctuary.
Jeff conducts tours every Friday morning and also helps out with any special events. He says that he enjoys the variety of tasks he's involved with. He enjoys chatting about the Sanctuary's work on a global scale, and answering questions.
Fresh air and donkeys,
what could be better?
He says, "People are often amazed at the scale of the charity especially when I tell them that The Donkey Sanctuary runs entirely from donations, with no government or lottery funding."
For Jeff, the most enjoyable part of his role is having the interaction with both people and donkeys, and he gains a lot of satisfaction from helping to spread The Donkey Sanctuary’s message whilst being surrounded by beautiful fields full of contented donkeys; “fresh air and donkeys, what could be better!”
