Janet Lawrence recently got in touch with us about her lovely Mum Margaret who has just celebrated her 90th birthday sending us these two wonderful photos. Her special birthday cake was made by Claire Best, one of her grandchildren, and we thought you would like to read Janet's email.
Although Mum has reached the great age of 90, she still has all her marbles and even does the Telegraph crossword every day!
She lives in an Annexe (it was a double garage which my husband converted for her but she loves telling anyone who will listen that we made her live in the garage!) to our family home and is constantly visited by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Caring for Mum is without a doubt very much a family concern and everyone looks out for her well-being on a daily basis. They all call her Nanny Pop Pop as she used to have a large standard poodle called Poppy. Sadly, Poppy is no more but she now has a little yorkie called Kenny and two cats to keep her company.
She's also passionate about wildlife and has numerous bird feeders outside her window and loves to watch the squabbling starlings and all the other birds that come in the garden. We live in a rural part of Kent, surrounded by fields and foxes are also regular visitors.
Donkeys are especially dear to Mum as she sees them as gentle creatures who are not always treated with the kindness they deserve.
We would like to say a big thank you to Margaret's generous family and friends for the gift of £300 in lieu of birthday presents which will aid us in our work, caring for all our resident donkeys living on Sanctuary farms in the UK, Ireland and Europe and enable us to give comfort and medical aid to many more through our overseas projects.
A very happy birthday from all of us Margaret.
