There are an estimated 50 million donkeys & mules worldwide. Most are working to support livelihoods in some of the poorest and most marginalized communities in the world and have a vital role to play in human happiness and survival. Many need care and protection from a life of suffering and neglect.
We currently work with partners in 27 countries reaching 1 million donkeys and mules and our vision is to reach many more.
As International Donkey Welfare Officer you will work to ensure high quality donkey-focussed interventions across The Donkey Sanctuary's international programme.
You will identify and develop programmes of work to constantly improve standards of donkey welfare in our projects. Developing and facilitating the training of front-line donkey welfare staff in equine behaviour and handling, husbandry, nutrition, harness, farriery and donkey health care. So that they are competant in their work and work to high ethical and agreed professional standards.
You will develop and manage networks involving collaborations and partnerships with other individuals and organizations (government and non-government) to promote donkey welfare, with particular responsibility for supporting regional projects in the America’s.
This position is based in Sidmouth, Devon; an area of ‘outstanding natural beauty’ however there will be around 120 days per year of international travel to projects outside of Europe as required.
