The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest animal charities and the largest equine charity working internationally.
As our Rapid Response and Campaigns Officer you will support our response to donkey-welfare emergencies by implementing communications activities that increases awareness and inspires action from key stakeholders.
In liaison with the Rapid Response & Campaigns Manager and the PR Manager, you will respond to press/media enquiries and identify suitable publicity opportunities by writing and issuing news releases, organising, co-ordinating and supervising press and media visits both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Able to demonstrate previous experience of working within media relations or campaigns, you will actively seek out breaking or emerging issues regarding donkey welfare using internet search platforms and social media, enabling the charity to be in a position to secure “First Responder” status.
Together with the Content Development Team, you will write communications that show the real impact we are having in improving the lives of donkeys in crisis and to exploit any short-term actions as an opportunity to raise awareness and inspire action. Possessing good audio-visual skills, innovative and open to new ideas, you will assist with rapid response film production, including scriptwriting, scheduling and overseeing filming.
Self-motivation, the proven ability to plan, prioritise, organise and meet deadlines, a high level of creativity and a wide breadth of experience in writing communications to suit different target audiences are essential, as is the ability to work on your own initiative and to positively interact and work closely with a wide variety of individuals and teams.
Based in Sidmouth, Devon – “an area of outstanding natural beauty” – this is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible.
