We are looking to recruit 2 x New Arrivals Grooms (Late Shift) to be based within our New Arrivals Unit at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth.
Upon arrival, all animals will spend a minimum of six weeks in the New Arrivals Unit. Vaccinations, weights, farriery, worming and dentals are updated before the animals then join the resident herd.
We are looking for two highly self-motivated individuals with excellent animal husbandry skills and the ability to work unsupervised. You will be responsible for the careful observation of all the new arrivals and for identifying and reporting illnesses to the New Arrivals Manager and the duty Veterinary Surgeon.
Other tasks include grooming, mucking out, feeding, removal of droppings from pasture and bringing animals in from the fields at the end of the day along with the preparation and distribution of medications for those animals on treatment.
Strict Bio-security measures are in place in order to minimise the risk of infection being transmitted between groups.
There will be some times when lone working is required.
These are one 9 months fixed term contract and one fixed term contract up to 12 months to cover a period of maternity leave, both contracts starting as soon as possible.
The hours of work will be based on 37.5 hours on alternate weeks. Working Monday – Friday, 3.30pm–9.00pm and Saturday and Sunday,1.15pm – 8.30pm (one week on/one week off). However please note that due to the care we provide, we operate a 24/7 service and some flexibility with hours will be required.
