The London Marathon event organiser has announced that the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon has been postponed to Sunday 4 October 2020.
We are incredibly grateful for all the efforts of our Team Donkey Sanctuary runners who have trained so hard while raising vital funds for donkeys in need all around the world. We know how disappointing this will be and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has chosen to run for The Donkey Sanctuary.
We are in touch with all our participants to provide advice and guidance on next steps now that a new date has been confirmed. You can read the full statement on the London Marathon website.
We have filled our charity places for the Virgin Money London Marathon 2020 and all our runners are keeping fit and raising amazing sums of money, in preparation for the new date. Keep an eye on the website and social media for updates on how they’re getting on with their training and do join us on the day to give them the support they deserve.
I have my own place, can I still join #TeamDonkey this year?
Yes. If you are lucky enough to have secured your own ballot place for the Virgin Money London Marathon 2020, then we’d love for you to join our team running in aid of The Donkey Sanctuary.
To join the team this year, please contact our community fundraising team.
Please note that this option is only if you have your OWN place for the London Marathon 2020, either through the general public ballot or through a running club or Good For Age. You are not applying for an official Donkey Sanctuary place in the event.
What support will I receive as part of #TeamDonkey?
We recognise that undertaking the Marathon is no mean feat, but rest assured, we will be with you every step of the way, from your pre-marathon training through to that finish line glory. #TeamDonkey is here for you!
Your package of support will include help with your fundraising, promotion of your training, a top-quality branded running vest and an enthusiastic team to cheer you along on the day.
Can I apply to join #TeamDonkey in 2021?
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, we are not currently accepting applications for our five Golden Bond places in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2021, taking place on Sunday 25 April.
However, if you are as passionate as we are about donkeys and their welfare and are interested in running the London Marathon 2021 on behalf of The Donkey Sanctuary, then please register your interest below. We will then contact you when applications open with details on how to apply.
Due to demand for places, we operate an application system. We ask that successful applicants pay a £100 registration fee and commit to raising a minimum of £2,000 (excluding Gift Aid). You will be helping to make a difference for donkeys all over the world, supporting us in alleviating suffering for these undervalued, downtrodden, over worked and mistreated animals.
What is the London Marathon route?
The London Marathon is the world’s largest marathon. This epic 26.2-mile race starts in Greenwich and takes in some of London’s greatest sights – the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Cleopatra’s Needle, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament, before you run down The Mall to cross the finish line in front of Buckingham Palace.
