Dora and Molly... such lovely natured mules
Posted on 22 November 2010.Molly the mule was a much loved pet but sadly a change in her owner’s personal circumstances meant she could no longer care for her. The heartbreaking decision was then made to relinquish Molly to the Sanctuary to ensure a safe and secure future, which she so deserves. After her initial settling in period, Molly moved to one of our specialised outlying farms to join a resident group of likeminded friends ie other mules!
Dora was signed over to our Irish Sanctuary in 2008 by the local Garda (police) following a complaint case. Poor Dora had been found in a distressed state and was tied up with rope with no access to food, water or shelter. Her coat was severely matted and she needed urgent veterinary care. Despite her ordeal Dora had a lovely temperament and after lots of TLC she was fit enough to travel to Devon to join Molly’s resident mule group where she could get the expert care and attention she longed for.
As Dora and Molly are such lovely natured mules and adore individual care and attention, staff felt they deserved the chance to go on the foster scheme where they would thrive on one to one attention. Imagine our delight when we were approached by a potential foster owner who was highly experienced with mules and could offer the time and energy to look after a pair! Following a visit to the mule group and in consultation with our behaviourist this super foster home took Dora and Molly in.
Their new foster owner reports that her two new girls are relaxed and settled in their new home and come straight up to anyone in the field for a cuddle or a treat and just adore grooming! Dora is full of fun and mischief and loves to come into the yard and investigate everything, in fact she was so interested in the hay and straw bales she tried to climb on top of them! Molly loves the attention from the children in the family and enjoys long walks around the farm and down the bridleways and is an absolute pleasure to have!
Occasionally we have mules looking for experienced homes and we will support you every step of the way, If you are interested in fostering these highly intelligent, sensitive and playful animals, please don’t hesitate to contact us to chat further.
