Sharon Shanks is a Donkey Welfare Adviser based in Yorkshire and the North East and has worked for The Donkey Sanctuary for nearly six years.
She says "My work involves anything donkey related: giving advice on welfare issues, supporting foster owners, relinquishments, running donkey care courses, giving talks, attending equine markets and sales, monitoring working donkeys and fundraising.
"Growing up in York I cycled everywhere and have almost always owned a bike. In the last few years I've been bitten by the Indoor Cycling bug. After lots of knee injuries, including two ACL reconstructions, I'm now restricted on the type of exercise I can do meaning my running days are pretty much over! I have bought my own indoor cycle now so I can train in the winter and not have the hassle of booking at the gym. I cycle almost every day, even when I go on holiday I go mountain biking and spinning."
This will be Sharon’s first cycle race. She chose the 50k route as it passes very close to our centre in Eccup, Leeds and our new charity shop in Otley (opening May 2015) and is hoping for celebratory post race drinks and cake.
Her aim is to raise awareness of the Charity, its work, The Donkey Sanctuary’s Leeds Centre, the new charity shop and to raise funds to continue the great work of The Donkey Sanctuary.

If you would like to join her and be part of Team Donkey Sanctuary, there are still places left in the Tour de Yorkshire Ride - Sportive 50km ride.
