The Donkey Sanctuary celebrates National Volunteers Week

Volunteers at The Donkey Sanctuary will be thanked for giving the gift of time in celebrations to mark National Volunteers’ Week 2016, which runs from 1-12 June.

People who volunteer for the Sanctuary are valued as true champions giving the precious gift of their time. Volunteers are central to the work of countless charities and other organisations. They are a valuable presence in many communities, helping out in places as diverse as sports clubs, libraries, schools and hospitals.

The Donkey Sanctuary is set to open Charity Shop in Tavistock

The Donkey Sanctuary is beginning preparations and recruitment for a new charity shop opening in the summer of 2016 in the centre of Tavistock.

The ‘For The Love Of…’ shop will be the second of its kind in the country to offer an exciting blend of quality donated pre-loved goods and The Donkey Sanctuary’s exclusive new range of gift items. There will also be the chance to pause for a delicious Fairtrade coffee, complete with carrot cake or donkey-shaped shortbreads.

Summer is just around the corner and there’s plenty of fun and adventure to keep the whole family entertained at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth this May half term.

Open from 9am every day, an array of family-friendly activities will be on offer, such as face painting, making a donkey out of modelling clay and creating a bat finger puppet. Furthermore, to celebrate the imminent arrival of The Donkey Sanctuary’s new Bat Beacon this summer, there will be a bat holiday hunt for wildlife explorers young and old.

Spring Family Fun Day and Dog Show at The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary is holding a spring family fun day and dog show on Sunday 15 May from 10am to 4pm.

Come and join The Donkey Sanctuary at their Spring Family Fun Day and Dog Show, for an action-packed and exciting day with a whole range of activities for all of the family to enjoy. There will be plenty of wonderful stalls with a wide assortment of different stands and goodies for two and four legged visitors.

Donkey milk industry welfare standards under examination

A year-long investigation to determine the welfare standards of donkeys associated with the European donkey milk industry is to be discussed this week at a meeting composed of 12 animal welfare groups that operate across Europe.

The report, supported by The Donkey Sanctuary, has been produced by Dr Michela Minero with a team from the University of Milan and will be presented at a meeting hosted by the charity’s Italian operation, Il Rifugio degli Asinelli.

‘For The Love Of…’ charity shop celebrates its first successful year in Otley

Between 30 April to 7 May The Donkey Sanctuary’s charity shop in Otley will be celebrating its first year with fun activities for all the family

The Donkey Sanctuary is hosting a Bat Trail with Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project

Join The Donkey Sanctuary and Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project on 14 April from 10am – 1pm for a unique bat trail event.

This morning walk in and around its Sidmouth headquarters follows routes used by greater horseshoe bats, and reveals how this fascinating species travels across the landscape on its nightly hunts.

Oggie runs four marathons, 104.8 miles, in three days to raise money for The Donkey Sanctuary

Eugene “Oggie” Winters from Portstewart, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, has raised £520 running four marathons over one weekend in February. He sponsored himself £5 per mile to raise funds for animals in need and visited The Donkey Sanctuary to hand over his donation.
