The Donkey Sanctuary has recently joined Bond, the UK membership body for organisations working in international development, to support the charity’s global welfare work.
Bond unites over 450 organisations of all sizes including WaterAid, Save the Children, Islamic Relied and Christian Aid as well as animal-focused organisations like The Brooke and World Horse Welfare, to enhance the reach of shared goals.
With a common goal of eradicating global poverty, Bond connects UK international development organisations with support, promotion and representation. They also work to influence governments and policy-makers, develop the skills of people in the sector, build organisational capacity and effectiveness and provide opportunities to exchange information, knowledge and expertise.
Alex Mayers, Programme Manager at The Donkey Sanctuary said: “In places like brick kilns where donkey and mule welfare is indivisible from human and environmental welfare, we need to join forces with organisations championing other parts of the picture to make the most joined-up, lasting improvements. As we move towards being a more integrated, global organisation, Bond can help us along the way.”.
The Donkey Sanctuary’s membership of Bond will raise the importance of donkeys in the home turf of the international development sector. Millions of people around the world rely on donkeys in order to survive and The Donkey Sanctuary’s mission is to live in a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued.
