The opening of The Donkey Sanctuary’s first charity shop on Otley High Street last week was celebrated with a ribbon cutting event and a guest appearance from a pair of donkeys.
The brand new shop was officially opened by two year-old Sophie and six year-old Josh who attend the charity’s donkey assisted therapy centre in Eccup. Donkeys Doodles and Eli also visited for the day to join the Otley Street Festival, much to the delight of shoppers.
The For The Love Of… shop offers a unique blend of quality donated pre-loved goods and The Donkey Sanctuary’s exclusive new range gift items. There’s also the chance to pause for a delicious Fairtrade coffee, complete with carrot cake or donkey-shaped shortbreads.
Shop Manager Lynne Aldridge says: “We’re thrilled to have greeted so many people to the shop and have been made very welcome by the Otley community. Sophie and Josh did a wonderful job cutting the ribbon and helping to welcome our shoppers.
“The funds raised at the store will not only help to support The Donkey Sanctuary’s worldwide work but also help to provide therapy sessions for children with additional needs all across Leeds. Having worked at the centre in Eccup for many years, I’ve been privileged to see the wonderful difference that our work makes for hundreds of local families every week.”
There are a number of volunteering opportunities at our For The Love Of… store in Otley to help create a unique sanctuary environment where people can relax, enjoy a delicious coffee with some retail therapy and learn more about The Donkey Sanctuary.
