The Donkey Sanctuary in Eccup, Leeds, is opening an extra special ‘pop up’ campsite especially for the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire this summer.
Just a stone’s throw from the top vantage points of the 'Grand Depart' stage from Leeds to Harrogate including Pool-in-Wharfedale, Otley, the Festival of Cycling at Harewood House, and the dramatic stage finish at Harrogate, the site could not be better located to experience the drama of this amazing spectacle of sport.
Cathryn Williams, centre manager at The Donkey Sanctuary in Leeds said the 'Grand Depart' on 5th July 2014 would be incredible for the county and for the donkeys.
She said: “We can’t wait to open our temporary campsite for what’s going to be an amazing weekend! We’re so excited to be so close to the Tour site and can’t wait to welcome as many cycle fans, families and animals to camp with us and enjoy the spectacle.
“We are just a matter of miles from all the top spots to watch the top riders in the world so we could not be more excited.
“We know the donkeys will love having guests to stay and we know you’ll love staying with them! They are such adorable creatures and will love all the extra attention. You’ll have the chance to meet them or even adopt one.”
She adds: “By staying here you’ll be helping us provide free riding therapy to children with additional needs. So we really hope campers will choose us to help support our work and to enjoy this brilliant weekend of cycling at the same time.”
The site will offer delicious breakfasts, snacks throughout the day and a barbecue and licensed bar at night.
Two nights’ camping for four people with one car on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July costs £100, making it one of the cheapest campsites in the area.
Pitches will be available from 1pm on Friday 4th July until 6pm on Sunday 6th July. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Additional car parking spaces and extra berths are available at an extra cost.
Our address is Swan Lane, Blackhill Lane, Eccup, Leeds LS16 8AZ.
