Visitors to The Donkey Sanctuary this half term (25th October - 4th November 2013) can expect to be spooked by a range of awesome activities and eerie events to celebrate Halloween.
The Sidmouth-based charity has organised a wide range of spooky events for all ages including pumpkin carving, face painting and a hunt for spooky donkey names around the Sanctuary.
The ‘spooktacular’ highlight of the week will be a Halloween Evening Extravaganza on Thursday 31st October from 5-7pm. After dark, the charity is transformed into a setting for ghost walks and petrifying trailer rides, offering frightening face painting and pumpkin carving. Fancy dress is encouraged and there is a special scary menu at the Hayloft restaurant fit to feed even the most fearsome of appetites.
Throughout the week, there will a range of creepy activities with Halloween Holiday Hunts every day providing the perfect opportunity to explore the Sanctuary and hunt for spooky donkey names on hidden wooden pumpkins (£1 per entry). You can also perfect your pumpkin carving skills and have your face painted (£3 per person per activity or £5 for both activities) on Thursday 31st October.
The Halloween activities offer the perfect opportunity to get up close with nature’s creepy crawlies, starting with Spider Day (Tuesday 29th October) where visitors can come face to face with some eight-legged friends, learn about important role they play in the ecosystem and enjoy spider-related craft activities. On Wednesday 30th October visitors can join the Sanctuary’s very own bat man, James, and Build a Bat Box to take home for £8 per kit.
