On the 21 November The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge held a party to celebrate 40 years of donkey assisted therapy.
The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge held a 40th anniversary party at their Saturday club on the 21 November.
Naomi Kinsman, Ivybridge Centre Co-ordinator says: “We expected that Saturday club to be full, so we prepared to welcome 64 children with their families and carers.
We got to cut a large 40th anniversary cake for all guests to have. Our Saturday club is for our regular users and their families only, but as always, visitors were welcome to come and watch and visit our donkeys throughout the celebrations”.
Schools and groups who visit the Ivybridge centre made 40th anniversary cards for the card competition being run. The winning card will be chosen on the anniversary, Wednesday 25th November.
Over the last 40 years, The Donkey Sanctuary’s donkey assisted therapy programme has grown and now gives over 50,000 donkey assisted therapy sessions a year. Through these projects in the UK and overseas the lives of children and adults with additional needs are immeasurably improved by the emotional, mental and physical therapy that close contact with these rescued donkeys provides and the donkeys also benefit from the stimulation and contact.
