The Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary is being supported by a Mid-Devon couple, who have organised a barn dance fundraising event on Friday 22nd October 2010 from 8pm to 11pm at Halberton Village Hall.
Angela and Alan Perkins from Halberton, have been organising charity nights for almost 30 years and this year have decided to help raise vital donations for the charity which protects donkeys and mules on a worldwide scale.
Their barn dance event includes live music from the Devon-based Amycrofters band, a prize draw and ‘Bring and Share Supper’. The admission charge is £5.00 per person and all proceeds will help raise money for The Donkey Sanctuary.
Dawn Vincent, who has worked for the charity for more than 14 years, says: “Angela and Alan are very kind people and we can’t thank them enough for running this event in aid of our cause. We rely entirely on donations and couldn’t’ exist without this kind of compassion and generosity. We hope it’s a huge success for them.”
Alan Perkins, who has previously set up fundraising nights in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, Devon Air Ambulance and many other charities over the last three decades, says: “This year, we wanted to do something different so we have chosen The Donkey Sanctuary. Our events are always wonderful fun and we are looking forward to it!
“My wife and I like donkeys and are regular visitors to the charity’s headquarters at Sidmouth; we’ve even adopted a donkey called Little Vijay which helps the Sanctuary’s sister charity provide riding therapy to children with additional needs.”
