This year, for the first time, young visitors to the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary will be able to start their seasonal celebrations with a visit to Santa’s Grotto right at the heart of the Sanctuary.
Santa and his grotto are situated at Box 16 next to the Hayloft Restaurant and Donkey Sanctuary staff, with a little help from Santa and his elves, have been working hard to decorate it beautifully ready for the Christmas celebrations.
Education and Activities Manager Jan Aherne says, ‘We are very excited about the grotto and can’t wait to welcome our smaller visitors. This is a grotto with a difference as each visit will be helping us to raise funds to support Donkey Sanctuary projects both in the UK and overseas.’
Admission to the Grotto is £3 per child and includes a gift from Santa and, as always, parking and admission to the Sanctuary are free of charge.
Grotto opening times are:
- Friday 11th December 5.00pm to 6.30pm
- Sunday 13th December 12.00pm to 3.30pm
- Sunday 20th December 12.00pm to 3.30pm
- Monday 21st December 2.00pm to 4.00pm
- Tuesday 22nd December 10.00am to 12.00pm
The Grotto will be open during the Sanctuary’s annual Candlelight evening on Friday 11th December, a magical evening where the Sanctuary is beautifully lit with over 15,000 candles and visitors can enjoy a carol service and festive refreshments. The candles are funded by supporters and each one represents a heartfelt dedication.
