Last week Brian, a dark brown foal, was born at the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary.
Recently the charity has had eight new arrivals; four of the mares arrived pregnant. The donkeys have been handed over to the Sanctuary as the owner’s circumstances had changed and they wanted to ensure that their donkeys have the best possible care and a secure life.
On Tuesday 14th July 2009 Maible gave birth to her foal, Brian. He’s been named in memory of Brian McConnell, who used to be a donkey transport driver for the charity, who has sadly passed away.
Glen Gardiner, the New Arrivals manager, said “The mother and foal have bonded really well and Brian is taking milk from his mother perfectly fine. He is a really friendly foal and will enjoy meeting the general public.”
Brian and his mother Maible are currently in the new arrivals unit and the public will be able to see them at the earliest opportunity.
A short video clip of Brian and updates will shortly be available on the charity’s website.
