A special prize giving ceremony is being held on Wednesday 10th September at 11.00 am on the beach for Aberdyfi’s award winning beach donkey.
Del Boy, owned by Louise Peeters, will receive a trophy, rosette and a bucket of carrots for winning the title of Britain’s Best Individual Beach Donkey 2008.
The award is part of a national competition organised by The Donkey Sanctuary, a charity based near Sidmouth in Devon, which aims to recognise high standards of animal welfare practice.
The prize will be presented by Elfyn Llwyd, MP for Meirionydd Nant Conwy. Mrs Anne Lloyd Owen, deputy chair of Gwynedd County Council, will also be in attendance. Representatives from The Donkey Sanctuary include this year’s national judge, Jenifer Tucker, and regional welfare officer, Molly Lloyd.
The winners were announced on Monday 1st September and Jenifer Tucker explains why Del Boy deserved the top award:
“I chose Del Boy as the overall winner of the best individual donkey because, to be honest, he just wowed me completely. He's very handsome and has a lovely big head with very long ears! Del Boy is a gentle giant. Even at the end of the day, he was happily giving donkey rides to children. He was clearly a favourite. One little girl lived in the area and she saved her pocket money each week so she could come and see the donkeys and have a donkey ride.”
The Donkey Sanctuary is grateful to Saracen Horse Feeds, sponsors of the trophy and rosettes for the National prize winners and Premier Toyota, Deganwy, sponsors of the North and Mid Wales Regional Finals.
