Relief camp for donkeys in Palitana

On Monday, our Chief Executive, David Cook, was presented with a cheque for £2,000 from the Shivsakti Seva Trust to go towards our work in India and to cover costs of one of our 'Donkey Sanctuary India' vets and health assistants attending a Donkey Camp in the town of Palitana based in the Gujarat region of India.

The Palitana Donkey Relief Project is holding the camp from 15-18th November and our team will be present to provide treatment, advice and education materials to donkey owners.

Saving lives in Egypt

I am currently in Egypt filming for the Donkey Sanctuary 40th Anniversary DVD, being released next year, and I can’t tell you how emotional my first day out with one of the mobile clinics was.

We went to Meet Kenana yesterday - a rural town where donkeys are used by the locals for everyday transport. 44 donkeys were treated by the team including a number of donkeys who were literally starving to death. The team were able to make use of a new dental kit brought over by Rob Nichols, head of Overseas, who is also visiting and they made such a difference.

A sad farewell to Tarnia

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Tarnia, a very much loved donkey who lived in the Main Barn. She was born in 1968 and came into the Sanctuary in 1992. Tarnia was a favourite with our visitors and will be missed by all of us.

Donkey charity launches experience gift

A Devon donkey charity today unveiled its 2009 dates for donkey carer experience days; it has found that the opportunity to ‘muck in’ at its Sanctuary in Sidmouth makes an ideal gift for ‘the person that has everything’.

The Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary has created these unique £150 experience days to help raise funds towards its worldwide work; in return, participants can enjoy a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience meeting and caring for some of its donkeys.

Ladies' fashion show (cancelled)

We are organising a fashion show at the Council Chambers, Knowle, Sidmouth from 7.30 pm - 10.30 pm on 28th October 2008. The event is in conjunction with a company called Travelling Trends, who specialise in hosting mobile fashion shows aimed specifically at associations who need to raise valuable funds for their particular cause.

There will be fantastic selection of seasonal clothes ranging from casual to smart wear for ladies, from late teenagers upwards. The evening will start with a catwalk display of some of the clothes available to buy.
