Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention! Recently on visiting one of my foster homes in the south of England I realised that there are more than one way to work around a problem. Monty is now in his thirties and over the years his hooves have developed seedy toe, a condition that occurs commonly in donkeys living in the wet UK. This condition can then lead to the occurrence of uncomfortable abscesses which Monty has suffered from in the past.
However, his caring foster parents finally learned of some all-weather boots, originally designed for husky dogs in Canada, that when worn in the mud and wet, offer enough protection to waterproof his hooves and keep the abscesses at bay. These boots have been further customised with cushioned insoles made from durable foam to offer even more comfort and support!
Monty can now walk tall on cushioned and booted hooves around his paddock all day, everyday, even in wet conditions without problem.
Whoever said "If the shoe fits.. wear it" obviously knew what they were talking about. Hopefully now Monty will be able to see out his final years both in comfort and some style!
