Jo Voyce’s first pair of foster donkeys have only just arrived but she already wants another two. And who can blame her since she bagged Neddy and Angel Eyes, the bashful duo who’ve stolen everybody’s heart.
Neddy is famous for his sunburned nose and his floppy ear, while his gorgeous gooey sidekick Angel Eyes is aptly named.
They broke everyone’s heart when they left The Donkey Sanctuary on Valentine’s Day. But brought love to Jo and her family when they arrived in Wareham to join their growing “hobby farm” of animals ranging from goats to rabbits to a Shire horse!
Like star-crossed lovers Jo feared the boys would never arrive. Neddy’s special health needs held up his passing his medical and delayed him and his buddy’s dispatch to their foster home. At one point the Voyces were even offered another pair of donkeys in case the original two could not make it. But they stuck to their guns and hung on for their favourites.
And now the boys have finally arrived and Jo is delighted! They will help complete her dream countryside life which is all about “indulging” the family’s favourite animals and reigniting a childhood love of horses and equines.
Jo didn’t expect to be taking on a pair of donkeys, let alone two pairs! Her first donkey died in 2012, knocking her confidence. Since then she was talked into keeping a friend company on a training course at The Donkey Sanctuary which would prove a fateful day that changed everything because this was the day that Jo would meet Neddy and Angel Eyes. And once she met them she couldn’t resist signing up to foster them.
“The grooms introduced me to Neddy who they said they would have trouble placing because he’s not pretty,” says Jo, “But I fell in love with him straight away, I just thought he was lovely. I knew immediately that I wanted him and Angel Eyes.”
And so the foster process began. Following Jo’s Introduction to Donkey Care course in September 2013 the family’s stables were checked, they were “matched” with Neddy and Angel Eyes, and finally the donkeys passed their medicals and were delivered on 14th February 2014.
But the story doesn’t end there. We can’t wait to see which lucky donkeys we can match with the Voyces next.
And neither can our love-sick grooms, who can’t wait for an excuse to visit their beloved Neddy and Angel Eyes.
We always need new foster homes. If you can give a loving home to a pair of donkeys please visit our foster a donkey page to find out more. We’d love to hear from you.
