Two donkeys who live at one of our more unique Donkey Guardian homes have been treated to spacious new accommodation.

Donkeys Callum, 17, and Morris, 15, who have lived at National Trust property Hatchlands Park for around eight years, are now reaping the benefits of a purpose-built donkey stable block.

The pair originally resided in the historic courtyard at the site but have now made the short move round the corner to their upgraded digs.

The donkeys’ new block comprises a large concrete yard and a wood chip enrichment area – with lots of space for the pair to explore and enjoy each other’s company.

The trust has also built a picnic area on land near to Callum and Morris, allowing the boys to enjoy plenty of human and canine company at their leisure.

Our Donkey Welfare Adviser Mark Kerr was invited to cut the ribbon to officially open Callum and Morris’ new home.

Mark says: “In my 21 years as a Donkey Welfare Adviser, I had never been asked to formally open a new stable block by cutting a ribbon and giving a speech!

“I used the opportunity to thank Hatchlands Park on behalf of The Donkey Sanctuary for the wonderful care they provide the donkeys.

“Callum and Morris will enjoy plenty of stimulation and interest in their new home, and I hope they are enjoyed by the thousands of visitors Hatchlands Park regularly welcomes.”
