Poor Morrissey was abandoned near the forest in County Cavan, Ireland.
He was desperately lonely and sad when our Welfare Adviser Jane Bruce, collected him.
Straight away she could see he was weak and in terrible pain from his neglected feet, which were all overgrown, cracked and twisted.
Jane led him into the horse box and drove him back to our wonderful holding base where we could get him the food and medical treatment he urgently

Jane and the team set to work to get Morrissey back to good health, starting with his feet being tended to by our local farrier.
Having his hooves trimmed to a comfortable length made a big and immediate difference to his quality of life.
However, unfortunately he developed further health complications and for almost two weeks he was very poorly.
Thankfully, this sweet and gentle-natured donkey began to feel better and has started to make real progress on the road to recovery.
