While we operate a strict no breeding policy, all foals born into our care are guaranteed a home for life either at one of our sanctuaries or in a Guardian home. Learn about Paccombe Farm's latest arrival.

When we relinquished Rachel and five other donkeys in April 2020, she was already in foal. After arriving at our sanctuary, veterinary health checks revealed to us that she was pregnant.

Her new foal, born 8 March and now named Joey, is light grey with a hint of brown and has stripes on his legs that look like stripy socks!

He is still spending time close to Rachel, regularly feeding from her and lying down in the grass for short naps.

Neil Coles, Farm Manager at Paccombe Farm, says: “Rachel delivered her foal quickly, and with no complications. Our vet has checked over the mare and foal and is very happy with how they are both doing. Rachel has been a brilliant mum so far.

“It’s really lovely watching them enjoy the spring sunshine together, knowing that they will both have a safe and happy future with The Donkey Sanctuary.”
