Devonian Alex Graeme is handing over the wheel to members of the public for a unique challenge that will help raise vital funds for The Donkey Sanctuary.

Alex, who runs Unique Devon Tours, will drive a route through Devon that has been decided upon by members of the public supporting Alex's fundraising efforts. On making a donation, supporters are allowed to choose a 'left' or 'right', informing Alex's mystery route through the county.

Armed with a list of ‘lefts and rights’, Alex and his driving partner Mark Lakeman, will set off on Saturday 11 May from a point closest to the centre of Devon. Sharing the drive, the pair will continue for 12 hours and see where the public has taken them.

With each turn the duo make - and no matter how lost they feel - they can be safe in the knowledge that the turn was backed by a generous supporter, whose donation will be split 50/50 between The Donkey Sanctuary and the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.

Thankfully, Alex and Mark are no strangers to the roads of Devon. Their roles as guides at Unique Devon Tours see them spending their days taking visitors to the four corners of the county, showing them the delightful sights the county has to offer.

Torquay born Alex lives in the village of Denbury near Newton Abbot, and loves every part of the county, including its spectacular coastlines: something he has in common with our Sidmouth donkeys, who overlook the Jurassic Coast. On visiting The Donkey Sanctuary international headquarters in Sidmouth, he was instantly impressed by the work of the charity, and was delighted to be able to fundraise for donkeys in need around the world.

We wish Alex and Mark the best of luck on their journey this weekend, and thank them and their supporters for generously raising funds in aid of equines in need.
