National Meadows Day on Saturday 4 July is the perfect opportunity to get out there and celebrate the beauty of our precious British wildflower meadows.
Two years ago The Donkey Sanctuary set off on an ambitious project to restore wildflower-rich meadows within its Sidmouth farm, to benefit local wildlife and bring a touch of the wild to visits to the Sanctuary in Devon.
Wildflower meadows provide a stunning summer spectacle for visitors, with a riot of colour, and vibrancy in the meadows. As well as being pretty, wildflowers such as knapweed, field scabious and oxeye daisy are amazing nectar sources for insects, so the impact is further added to by bees, butterflies and hoverflies.
The wildflower meadows will be at their best from now until the middle of August and people are encouraged to follow one of the mown explorer paths through the restoration meadows, when they next visit The Donkey Sanctuary.
Call into the Visitor Centre for more information about where the flowers can be found!
