APPLICATION DEADLINE:

The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest international animal welfare charities, currently supporting projects in over 35 countries worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

As In-House Solicitor you will play a key role in safeguarding the reputation of The Donkey Sanctuary, providing a diverse range of professional legal advice and support to stakeholders on both domestic and international matters.  You will act as the first point of contact for business functions across the charity, and will offer valuable support and guidance to other members of the Legal and Governance function. UK qualified, and possessing substantial relevant post-qualification experience, you will advise the charity on legal matters, and will work closely with external law firms (both in the UK and globally), ensuring the best legal support is obtained on specific/complex legal issues.

Possessing outstanding communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters, you will work closely with our Data Compliance team to maintain and develop best practice in line with legislation, draft/update a wide range of commercial contracts/key agreements and internal governance policies, and ensure the charity is kept abreast of all relevant new legal and regulatory developments. The ability to understand and interpret complex legal information pertinent to the operations of a charity, and to provide legal advice in a concise and clear way, is essential, as is strong commercial and data protection legal expertise. Experience of working within the not-for-profit sector, and a practical working knowledge of charity, property and intellectual property law is desirable.

If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to be part of the evolving program of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Based in Sidmouth, Devon – “an area of outstanding natural beauty” – this is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible.

Closing date for completed applications: 12.30pm on Friday 15 February 2019.
