Meet Sky; he is an assisted therapy donkey at the Ivybridge centre in Devon.
In February 2015 his doting grooms noticed that Sky was slightly quieter than usual and that he had swelling on his face that was getting bigger.
After an x-ray it was discovered that Sky had an abscess and needed to have the tooth extracted.
Sky was brought to our veterinary hospital in Sidmouth for treatment. A second x-ray and endoscopy confirmed an apical infection.
Our veterinary surgeon Karen Pickering worked quickly and carefully to extract the tooth and removed the infection.
After a period of recovery, Sky was discharged back to the Ivybridge centre with his friend Bart.
Sky quickly recovered and was happy to be back working in the donkey assisted therapy centre. The knowledge held by the resident vets allowed Sky to be treated as quickly and efficiently as possible, and a new hospital will enable more donkeys to receive attention.
Please support our Hospital Appeal to help more donkeys like Sky receive expert treatment.
