Trow Farm, which is adjacent to Slade House Farm, is the largest of all our farms with an enormous 106 hectares (261 acres) and is managed by Alan Brown with 7 full-time staff. The farm was purchased in 1997 and is mainly agricultural based providing the hay and straw for donkeys on the other farms.
After new barns were built, the farm received its first resident donkeys in 2002. Today it has about 250 donkeys (including our resident donkeys, mules, ponies and horses down at Hurfords which is also part of Trow Farm).
The farm has many activities going on:
- Main collection point for recycling plastic and paper from the Sanctuary.
- Generating compost from the dung and wood chippings from the farms.
- Willow beds for cleaning dirty water.
- Training area for staff undergoing vehicle familiarisation working closely with Health & Safety.
