Brookfield Farm is managed by Andrew Cockburn. The farm was purchased in 1976 and has over 330 donkeys, mules and ponies living on the farm, which run over 135 acres including 10 acres of woodland.
The farm is perched on top of a hill at 805 feet above sea level, looking out over the beautiful valley of Farway.
The donkeys on the farm are some of the youngest and fittest within the Sanctuary as the fields leading down to the valley are very steep, so would not be suitable for very elderly donkeys.
Due to Andrew’s knowledge of foaling, all the mares that come into the Sanctuary pregnant go to live at Brookfield Farm to have their foals in their ‘maternity unit’, where they will stay together until the foals are weaned from their mothers.
