On Wednesday 28 September, staff at The Donkey Sanctuary took part in a symbolic walk, which we called 'Doing the Donkey Work'.
Members of the Veterinary, International, New Arrivals and Research & Pathology departments took part in the walk from the current hospital at Slade House Farm to the site of the new hospital at Brookfield Farm.
Donkeys walk and donkeys work endlessly carrying building materials all over the world, so it seemed that we could combine those things and do the walking ourselves to symbolise how hard donkeys work for us.
Out of respect to working donkeys worldwide, the groups set off separately to the building site to show solidarity with overworked donkeys.
Thanks to the wonderful, generous help of our supporters, we have been able to build a facility, which is nearing completion, and will stand as a centre of excellence in donkey care and training.
The walk helped to highlight our commitment to our founder Dr Svendsen’s dream of providing hands-on welfare both here in the UK and all over the world.
