Experience what it is really like to be ‘a vet for the day' with The Donkey Sanctuary's Junior Vet Day.
Our popular Junior Vet Days are back for 2020, offering children interested in a veterinary career, the opportunity to experience what it's really like to be 'a vet for the day'.
The Donkey Sanctuary, a global centre of excellence in donkey welfare, is one of only a handful of places in the UK to offer children a glimpse of first-rate veterinary care and what it actually involves.
Veterinary work experience for children is rare, yet they are still required to make important educational choices in their secondary school years. This insightful and educational experience has therefore been developed to provide 11-15 year olds with a taste of veterinary work in a real-life setting, which can really help shape their future career path.
Aspiring junior vets will work with the sanctuary’s qualified veterinary staff to learn how to diagnose and treat Hettie, the poorly donkey, from in-depth examinations, medication, anatomy, pathology and dentistry to hoof problems and surgery. Each child will receive a comprehensive workbook to complete during the day, with guidance from our expert staff.
There will of course be some time for donkey grooming, as well as the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
The Junior Vet Day is based at The Donkey Sanctuary’s state-of-the-art donkey hospital at Brookfield Farm near Honiton, Devon and places cost £120 each. All proceeds help fund the work of The Donkey Sanctuary worldwide.
