An annual event to remember those people whose memory lives on in special dedications at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth.
Our annual Memorial Day is held on or near the feast of St Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals. During this day we remember those people and pets whose names are inscribed on plaques and memory walls/boards around the sanctuary.
The service begins in the marquee at 10:30am. This is followed by blessings at designated locations around the sanctuary with the CEO, the Reverend and a member of the events team. The blessings begin at Dr Svendsen's tree after the service and end in the marquee.
Personal invitations are sent out each summer to families who have a connection to a plaque, tree or FOD fund with details of the service. If you have not received an invitation and would like more information regarding Memorial Day please contact us.
Details of flower selection and how to order them are sent out with the annual invitations. Every flower arrangement is handmade by the events team and our wonderful volunteers, before lovingly put in place by your plaque, tree or special place.
After the service and blessings have concluded, you are welcome to stay and experience more of the sanctuary where you can meet hundreds of friendly donkeys, enjoy a delicious lunch or afternoon treat in The Kitchen restaurant and explore our exciting new indoor attractions.
The service will be a ticketed event this year to ensure we follow Government guidance re Covid-19 and booking will be available at a later date. Further details will be provided in the invitations.
