Situated near Buxton, our Derbyshire sanctuary covers almost 30 acres Although not open to the general public, we hold six open days between April and September for our visitors to meet the staff and get ‘hands on’ with the donkeys.

Come and meet our staff and get ‘hands on’ with the donkeys. The donkeys enjoy all the extra fuss and attention and it’s a lovely day for all.

There will be refreshments available, tea, coffee and juices and homemade cakes, with vegan options available, plus a BBQ (non-vegan).

Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads.

Our Derbyshire Centre provides permanent refuge to a small number of donkeys, some of which who are elderly and are on long-term medical conditions. Other donkeys that are relinquished into the Derbyshire Centre that are fit and healthy are put forward for our foster scheme where they can be re-homed to from our farm to one of our guardianship homes.

The Donkey Sanctuary Derbyshire is located along the A515. The turning is just passed the Bull in the Thorn campsite and cafe.

By bus

Local bus routes include the 58 and 441 bus services which will take you to the Bull in the Thorn bus stop.
