Two of our lovely donkeys enjoy walks so much that last week they were even spotted taking each other for a walk!
Groom, Steven, snapped William holding the lead rein for his friend, Buttons: “William and Buttons really love walks - they’d stay out all day if they could! We do other things like enrichment activities and obstacle courses but walking is their favourite. William loves it so much we even saw him holding the lead rope for Buttons.”
As well as walks William and Buttons are trained in order to go out to a foster home. Their training involves exposure to unfamiliar sights and sounds and being introduced to new people, or any pets or circumstances they may encounter in their new home.
Once they are ready they will be delivered to their new home and one of our Donkey Welfare Advisers will stay in touch to support their settling in, monitor their progress and carry out regular checks.
Buttons and William are just two of the scores of donkeys our experts are preparing for foster at any one time. We have donkeys of all shapes and sizes and all temperaments and each one is thoroughly vetted and matched to suit the requirements of each potential foster home.
By placing donkeys with foster homes we are freeing up valuable space on our farms and in our Sanctuaries for more animals urgently in need of care or rescue and giving the foster donkeys the individual attention of a private home or family.
