On Friday 11th December 2009, everyone from the PR Office (Claire Shapcott, Chris Phillips, Suzi Cretney and myself) helped with the Sanctuary’s annual Candlelight evening. From 9.30am until 7pm, we, along with many other staff, were out in force helping to display and light some of the 15,000 candles placed around the grounds.

Do you recognise this building? The Donkey Sanctuary has been given an historic ink block in memory of the late Mr Brian Greer.
Mr Greer passed away two years ago, and now his family are finding homes for some of his interesting Sidmouth memorabilia. The ink block they have donated to us depicts buildings at Slade House Farm and possibly came from an auction originally.
I am delighted to add this new film of Ashley to the website but I must tell you it is a little out of date due to some technical problems I have had! Even though it was originally filmed in mid-November, it is well worth watching as it includes a chat with Elena (Ashley’s vet), some very cute slurping noises as Ashley tucks into his bowl of warmed milk, a guest appearance of Ashley’s friend, Mr Khan, trying to get in on the action, and the tell-tale sign when Ashley has finished his breakfast!
Zena was born here at the Sanctuary three weeks ago. Unfortunately she was born prematurely and staff found her curled up in the corner of the stable at about 6.30 am. She was very quiet and not at all well and we soon realised that her back legs were not working properly - she was unable to stand up or walk.
