Zippy was a very special young donkey and many of you will have read of his health problems in my previous blog as well as coverage in the press as villagers rallied to help give Zippy a chance of survival.
Sadly the news is not good and it was decided that it was in Zippy's best interests to be put to sleep because of a very aggressive tumour. We are all devastated but know that Zippy's short life was full of fun, stimulation and, above all, so much love.
His friend George is getting extra special attention to help him get through the weeks following the loss of his best friend.
When I called Zippy's foster owners, Ken and Genine, they told me that Zippy was the perfect donkey, so kind and gentle with all who met him. He touched so many lives and will always remain in all our hearts.
It is so hard for foster owners to face this sort of end, particularly in such a young donkey and we cannot thank them enough for being there for the Sanctuary's donkeys through the good and occasional bad times.
Dereham Times kindly gave The Donkey Sanctuary permission to reproduce the photo taken by Ian Burt of Zippy with foster owner Ken.
